5 Tips to Implement When Designing Your Website Development Web Design
http://www.raywarda.com. Your website design is an integral part of your website. Your design will determine if people are going to come back to visit it or even share it with their family and friends. Believe it or not, it even affects your search engine rankings with sites like Google, Yahoo, Bing and others. There are certain things that you should limit or even avoid. Below are some of my recommendations to a better looking website:
MAKE YOUR SITE EASY TO READ. Use white space. White space is important because it is easy on the eyes of the reader. If you have too much text in large paragraphs, you will overwhelm the reader. Use headers, sub headers and lists in your content. Bold your headers to show separation from the actual content that supports the headers.
Use bullet points as much as possible. Bullet points create white space that allows your content to be easy to read. Bullet points also act as a sorting tool to have the reader find the things that they are specifically looking for.
Don’t forget to use paragraphs. I recommend having a maximum of three sentences per paragraph unless all the sentences pertain to that one subject header. Then there is an exception.
THE TYPE OF FONT IS IMPORTANT. Sometimes we think that if we use fancy fonts that your site will look fancier more sophisticated. This is the contrary. Your readers do not want to read content that has hard to read font styles. When a reader is browsing your content, their time is of the essence. They do not want to struggle to read through your sites content and blog posts.
You also don’t want to use small fonts that will have reader struggle to read the content on your site. A comfortable reading experience is your ultimate goal. Remember, the more comfortable they are reading your content, the longer they will stay, the more they will share your site with their friends and social networks.
MUSIC AND VIDEOS. This is one of my pet peeves. There is nothing wrong with adding videos and music to your site. As a matter of fact, I highly recommend adding videos in your site because they are a great way to generate organic traffic through search engines, as long as they are tagged correctly with good keyword use. However, my pet peeves are when I visit a website and the background music automatically comes on or a video automatically plays. You do not want to do this.
Your videos should have a play option on them so that it gives the choice to the visitor as to if they would like to watch the video or not. Imagine if a visitor comes to your website and the volume on their computer is on full blast and your video starts automatically. This is not good and the visitor will not appreciate this.
LIMIT THE USE OF FLASH IF POSSIBLE. Flash is a very useful tool to building your website. However, some people overuse flash. Even though we live in a time where almost everyone on the internet has high speed, there are some people with slower connections out there.
Be respectful of this. I am not a fan of websites having flash introductions. This slows down the speed of entry to your website. People are impatient these days. They want everything now and yesterday. Waiting for your website to load up is not the reason why they came to your site. Unless you have a major media site with a lot of graphics, then I recommend not using flash if possible.
COLORS ARE IMPORTANT. The use of colors is another important part of your web design. Make sure you are using warm colors in your site. Browse through your website yourself. If at any point, your website becomes hard to read or hard on your eyes, then that is the time where you need to think of changing colors to some more warm and cozy colors. Give them the experience of wanting to come back and share your site with friends.
Of course, there are a lot more things you want to be careful of when designing your website. I just wanted to share some of the important ones that I think are the foundation of your design. Remember, use pictures and videos in your site to make it fun and create a diversity of different types of content. Cater to all types of visitors, those that are auditory, visual or the reading types. Until next time, bExtraordinary my friends!
